Joseph Nkuranga is a medical doctor based in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a born-again Christian and is currently Chairman of the Board of the Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF) in Kenya. Joseph works at the University of Nairobi where he is involved in research projects in the Department of Clinical and Therapeutic Medicine and previously led clinical teams in public health projects in various non-governmental organizations supporting care in faith-based, public and private health facilities across the country. He is married to the beautiful Judy and together they have two handsome, energetic boys.

Dr Peter Saunders trained as a general surgeon at Auckland Medical School, New Zealand, before becoming a missionary doctor in Kenya. He worked for the Christian Medical Fellowship UK for 27 years and, in 2019, became Chief Executive of the International Christian Medical & Dental Association (ICMDA).

His current work includes leadership training, teaching evangelism and ethics, medical mission, writing, publishing and media work. He is a board member of the Evangelical Alliance. He and his wife Kirsty live in St Albans, UK, and have three sons and two grandchildren.

Alex Bolek, is a General Practitioner (GP) with Masters in Public and Tropical Health (MPH)

He is ICMDA’s Africa Coordinator and East Africa Regional Secretary since 2017.

Alex is also the chairman of South Sudan Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA-SS)

He is on the board of a number of Christian organisations such as the Scripture Union of South Sudan (SUSS), Fellowship of Christian University Students (FOCUS), ACORD and others.

Alex has a passion for leadership development and is an alumnus of both Haggai International (HI) Leadership Institute and John Maxwell Million Leaders Mandate.

For over ten (10) years, Alex has served with both MOH and international NGOs such as Jhpiego, Healthnet TPO, St. Vincent De Paul Society in different managerial and technical roles implementing public health and humanitarian programs.

Alex has contributed to three (3) books authored by Rev. Colin Salter (UK).

He and his wife Helen founded Timothy School, a community Christian faith-based school and Rock City Medical Centre in Juba, South Sudan.

Dr. Anicet RWAMA, is public Health specialist currently a leader and implementor of preaching Program in RCMDO organization aimed to change the bad attitudes and behavior of using drug abuse in youth's at KTC (Kigali Transit Center) among the other rehabilitation centers existing in Rwanda.
He is also a Director of JAAR NGO which is focused on implementing the different projects in the fields of Agriculture, Health, Education and ICT at the grass root level. He was formerly worked in Ministry of Health to the National Program of Malaria Control and eventually shifted to the National program of Community Health worker as a training Officer entitled mainly in different programs based to the community level. He is also among the Doctors who helps RCMDO (Rwanda Christians Medical and Dental Organization) to prepare and implement the medical outreach program to be successfully.

Augustin was born in the DR Congo and trained as a General Surgeon in South Africa where he now lives and works. He serves as an Associate Executive Officer (AEO) for ICMDA Sub-Saharan Africa, where he promotes the mission, vision and core values of ICMDA among students and junior graduates. He was also the Congress Director for the 17th ICMDA World Congress held in Arusha, Tanzania in 2023.

He is a born again Christian, Chair CMDA Tanzania Chapter, Church elder at Haggai Interdenominational English service at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center, Mentor, Father, Husband, and friend.
Physician and Microbiologist trained in Tanzania, USA, and UK working at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Kilimanjaro teaching hospital, Tanzania. He has experience of teaching and clinical work for more than 15years mainly infectious diseases. He has more than 40- publications in peer reviewed journals with five public health educational books. Currently doing his PhD on One Health titled “Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever: Reducing an Emerging Health Threat in Tanzania. “
He is very passionate about public health education through radio, books, television, social media and one on one to make sure that we reduce the load from physicians shoulder by educating people to be able to own their health. Through different platforms he has managed to mentor more than 1,000 medical professionals within and outside Tanzania to pass on the mantle.
He has received several awards: forgarty international fellowship award, Bill and Melinda travel award, THRiVE Msc awards, Prof Ben Hamel award best publication award, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University Award of outstanding publications, Hepatitis B Vaccination champion award, and COVID-19 vaccination ambassador

Presently the CEO of Companions of Grace International, Dr. Mathew George Mulavelil spent twenty years with the Emmanuel Hospital Association holding the positions of Coordinator of Oral Health Services, the Medical and Managing Director of the Duncan Hospital Raxaul Bihar. Following which he was seconded to the Evangelical Medical Fellowship Of India (EMFI) as the Secretary of Missions, From 2013 to 2019 he was with the Evangelical Medical Fellowship of India (EMFI) heading its Missions Department. He oversaw its various Mission training programs and developed new paradigms and directions in healthcare missions as well as mentored a significant number of young students and professionals.

Dr Joseph Warurua Mugo, a paediatric pulmonologist, currently consulting mainly at the Nairobi hospitals. He also on part time basis, runs his own practice together with his wife Dr Ruth Mugo.

Dr Mugo and Dr Ruth met at the Medical School & have now been Married for 37 years. God has blessed them with 3 adult children and one grandchild.

Dr Mugo, has been a member of the CMF, Kenya and was Chair of the first organising Committee of a
the Regional Conference held in 1980, as a 3rd year Medical Student.
Was a. E.A. Regional Representative for many years and a regional vice president of ICMDA for 10 years

Dr. Margaret Makanyengo is an established consultant psychiatrist with a Master in medicine in psychiatry, and experienced in child, adolescent and family psychiatry, and palliative care in HIV/AIDS in Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). She has been practising as a psychiatrist for over 32 years and was in charge of mental health services in Kenyatta National Hospital for 21 years. Under her leadership in KNH, she worked with the Ministry of Health to develop the national HIV Comprehensive Care Program and to establish Comprehensive Care Clinics all over the country.
During her tenure in at KNH, she established the child and adolescent, Psychosocial and mental health care in HIV and Gender based Violence services in KNH.
In collaboration with Population Council, she did several studies in KNH on screening for Intimate Partner Violence in the antenatal clinic, mental health clinic, HIV clinic and youth Center. This study enabled the national program to incorporate screening for GBV as an item in the National Health Information System database.
She founded NAHEDO in 2004, an NGO that addresses Health, Research and Development Through her leadership, NAHEDO participated in various research projects since 2014. One of them included a study funded by Johns Hopkins University, Public Health Department, USA, on “enhanced economic empowerment initiatives for HIV prevention among youth living in the urban slums of Kenya”. Through NAHEDO, she has partnered with Daktari Online to provide online courses on mental health including “spirituality and mental Health”
She recently received an award of Moran of the Burning Spear (M.B.S) in 2022 from former
President Uhuru Kenyatta. She is currently a practicing psychiatrist at Oasis Mental Health
Hospital on Peponi road.

Santhosh is trained as a Physician and works part time in a Mission Hospital at New Delhi. He is  the training coordinator of ICMDA and Regional Secretary for South Asia, ICMDA. He did his MBBS from Medical College Kottayam,  and MD Medicine from CMC Ludhiana.
He was involved in various hospital leadership roles across North India as part of Emmanuel Hospital Association from 1992. He was a lecturer in Nephrology and Medicine at CMC Ludhiana prior to joining EHA. He is married to Saira, an Anesthetist, who currently heads Emmanuel Hospital Association. They have two grown up children.

I am Sybrand de Vaal, a 43-year-old sinner saved by God's grace in Christ; a husband of 20 years to the lovely Celeste; and the father of four precious daughters. I live and work in Cape Town, where I am a psychiatrist working in the intellectual disability unit of a specialist psychiatric hospital. I am jointly employed at the University of Cape Town, and, together with my wife, we enjoy connecting with students through the local Christian Medical Fellowship. I love God and people, albeit very imperfectly.

Victor Fredlund graduated in 1979 from London University. In 1981 he started as a medical officer in Mseleni Hospital, KZN, South Africa became Medical Superintendent in 1985 and retired at the end of March 2021. Involved in hospital administration, planning and development, as well as day to day clinical practice. He has written research papers on TB, HIV and Mseleni joint disease; and was also involved in community development, water, sanitation, job creation, education, orphan care, youth work and church ministry. At present running Ngithume Nkosi, which seeks to encourage health workers to a life of service to the community.

Christian Medical & Dental Associations in the United States. A member of
CMDA since dental school, he has been a part of CMDA’s senior leadership
team since 2019. He averages about four dental mission trips each year, and
he also serves as the Director of CMDA’s Faith Prescriptions Resource,
designed to help Christian healthcare professionals address the spiritual
needs of their patients. Dr. Griffin enjoys opportunities to communicate the

I am Dr. Mugisha Ntiyonza Nkoronko, A Tanzanian Christian Surgeon and Entrepreneur Practicing General Surgery at the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma, Central Tanzania). I was born, raised and trained in Tanzania. I did my Primary and Secondary school education in my birth place Sumbawanga town, southwestern of Tanzania few miles from the shores of Lake Tanganyika later high school in Lushoto town Northeastern Tanzania on the Usambara plains.

In 2011, I graduated as Medical Doctor from the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College located just at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Moshi town. After my Internship at KCMC, I worked few years at Moshi Cooperative University as a Medical officer and University Health Policy advisor to the Vice Chancellor.

In 2015 I started General Surgery Residency at Arusha Lutheran Medical Center and graduated as General Surgeon from College of Surgeons East, Central and Southern Africa(COSECSA) and Loma Linda University through Pan African academy of Christian Surgeons at Arusha program.

I have worked at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, My Almer mater Head of Acute Surgery Unit at the Department of Surgery.Inwas supervising and mentoring Medical students, Intern Doctors, Registrars,Residents and surgical trainees.

Currently I am the Founder of Netcare foundation a Christian Cause that Advocate for Safe surgery , promote good and ethical leadership, Enhance Education for Self reliance in Africa. I am also a Founder of Ideal Academy a preschool in Moshi. I am a board member to the Same qualities Foundation in Tanzania a charitable organisation providing reconstructive surgery for children with Disabilities in Tanzania. I am also the President Elect (Assuming Office in October 2024) of Medical Association of Tanzania.

As you all know being a first-born in Africa you are a deputy parent by birth. As a Surgeon and So I started being a leader at home to the other three brothers and other members of extended family, proceeded by Children leader position at my local church while in primary school. I took elective leadership position at High School and served as the General Secretary.

At University I have led the students and their organization both as Class representative and Prime Minister. I have also engaged with leadership of Christian Organization for University Students at my local university and National level. During my residency have been the Resident Representative and Chief Resident.

My leadership experience involves also Being a Church Planter, Church Clerk, Sabbath School Superintendent , Youth leader, Communication Director, and Chair Construction Committee at my Local Church (Kariwa SDA Church)

As a family man, I have over ten(13) years experience of Family Leadership, I am a Loving Husband to Ms. Vera Nicholas Kitunga and Co-parent to our two children Von Aislinn-Chimpaye and Don-Einstein.

I have decided to live the rest of my life as a Surgeon and Entrepreneur with keen focus in Education and health sector. I will also author more books apart from the book of Incredible steps to success; form the roof base to the roof of Africa. I hold a view that the root cause of all Africans problems, Leadership contributes more than half. Grooming Leaders fro both today and tomorrow suffice to solve many problems in our continent. I'm convinced that the good personal leadership will materialize to good social leadership.

I have known CMDA for years, attended a CMDA Conference in Greece and Presented on ICMDA East Africa conference in Arusha 2015.

Dr. Proscovia Mugaba is a Christian medical doctor from Uganda. She currently the Chairperson of the National Executive of the Uganda Christian Medical Fellowship (UCMF), which is affiliated with ICMDA.

She completed her medical degree (MBChB) at Makerere University in Uganda in 2003. She subsequently completed her training in general pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and has recently completed her training at the University of Alberta to become a fetal cardiologist. With her scope of experience and training, she is eager to support initiation and advancement of organized fetal cardiology services in Uganda. She is a clinician, a researcher and a medical advocate. She is passionate about mentoring students and other health professionals in Uganda, with the goal of improving the quality and scope of medical training in Uganda, to serve the people of Uganda.

She is married, and together with her husband they have been blessed with two sons. She has been involved with the UCMF since her days as a medical student, and she has served on the UCMF Executive committee in various capacities including as Students’ Liaison Committee member since 2007, and through this engagement played a key role in establishing the UCMF National Students’ Chapter that was launched in 2012.

Walter Jaoko is a physician and professor of medical microbiology at University of Nairobi where he has been teaching for over 30 years. He is currently the Director of KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research at University of Nairobi, and an extraordinary professor of medicine at Stellenbosch University. He trained in medicine at University of Nairobi, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Oxford University, and in ethics at Stellenbosch University and Anahuac University. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Africa Academy of Sciences. His interests are in infectious diseases and research ethics, and has published widely in these areas.
Walter Jaoko became a follower of Christ as a teenager, and is passionate about his faith in the Lord. He is married and has 2 adult daughters.

Dr Stephen Muhudhia is a medical doctor, specialised in paediatrics and child health as well as bioethics. He has qualifications in Bioethics and Health Law; a Master’s degree in Bioethics and Health Law from Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, a Post Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Ethics, from the Centre for Bioethics and Culture of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant in Karachi, Pakistan. He also has additional training by UNESCO is a UNESCO certified teacher of ethics.
Dr Muhudhia is an adjunct professor of Bioethics at Trinity International University and a Co- Director of the Trinity International University Africa Bioethics Initiative program. He is a part-time lecturer in bioethics at Kabarak University, Kenya. In addition, he serves as faculty on the CBEC-KEMRI Bioethics Training Initiative, an NIH-funded program for capacity building in the fields of Research Ethics, Clinical Ethics, Public Health Ethics, Research methodology and IRB administration.
Dr Muhudhia is a member of the Scientific, Ethics and Research Unit (SERU) of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). He has served for two years on the IRB of Gertrude’s Institute of Child Health and Research in Nairobi, Kenya.
He has a Certificate in advanced leadership from Haggai International and a certificate in Corporate Governance

He has written research papers on TB, HIV and Mseleni joint disease; and was also involved in community development, water, sanitation, job creation, education, orphan care, youth work and church ministry. At present running Ngithume Nkosi, which seeks to encourage health workers to a life of service to the community.

Dr. William Griffin serves as the Vice President for Dental Ministries with the
Christian Medical & Dental Associations in the United States. A member of
CMDA since dental school, he has been a part of CMDA’s senior leadership
team since 2019. He averages about four dental mission trips each year, and
he also serves as the Director of CMDA’s Faith Prescriptions Resource,
designed to help Christian healthcare professionals address the spiritual
needs of their patients. Dr. Griffin enjoys opportunities to communicate the
love of Christ, domestically and internationally, through healthcare.

Dr. Proscovia Mugaba

Dr. Proscovia Mugaba

Regional Council & UCMF Chairperson

Dr. Proscovia Mugaba is a Christian medical doctor from Uganda. She currently the Chairperson of the National Executive of the Uganda Christian Medical Fellowship (UCMF), which is affiliated with ICMDA.

She completed her medical degree (MBChB) at Makerere University in Uganda in 2003. She subsequently completed her training in general pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and has recently completed her training at the University of Alberta to become a fetal cardiologist. With her scope of experience and training, she is eager to support initiation and advancement of organized fetal cardiology services in Uganda. She is a clinician, a researcher and a medical advocate. She is passionate about mentoring students and other health professionals in Uganda, with the goal of improving the quality and scope of medical training in Uganda, to serve the people of Uganda.

She is married, and together with her husband they have been blessed with two sons. She has been involved with the UCMF since her days as a medical student, and she has served on the UCMF Executive committee in various capacities including as Students’ Liaison Committee member since 2007, and through this engagement played a key role in establishing the UCMF National Students’ Chapter that was launched in 2012.
